The Golf Courses

Blackmoor Golf Club
Established in 1913, Blackmoor Golf Club has matured over the past 100 years into one of the best courses in Hampshire.

Originally laid out by renowned golf architect Harry Colt, Blackmoor is a traditional heathland course, with heather lined fairways interspersed with pine, birch and oak trees. Featuring many subtle doglegs, the course, at 6,164 yards may not be the longest, but accuracy of drive is all-important.

A regional qualifying course for the Open Championship from 1998 until 2003, Blackmoor is an England Golf Championship venue and is home to the Selborne Salver, one of Britain’s most prestigious amateur events attracting both International and Walker Cup Players.

Hankley Common Golf Club
Hankley Common Golf Club was founded in December 1896, with the course opening just six months later. The original design of the course was just nine holes when the club was founded, more than 125 years ago.

A quarter of a century after the course was first opened, five-time Open Champion James Braid was brought in to design a new lay-out, extending Hankley Common to the 18-hole course that is played on to this day.

Harry Colt was also a man to have a hand in the design of Hankley Common. Colt was brought in to space the par-3s a bit better, and thanks to his new design, the 7th hole became one of the finest short holes in the country.

The course’s surroundings are one of the key reasons why Hankley Common is such a sought-after round of golf for travellers to the region. Located in a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’ (SSSI), the heathland venue provides a glorious walk.

Hindhead Golf Club
One of the finest layouts in an area littered with golfing gems. Hindhead is a stunning example of a course weaving its way through natural terrain. The front nine largely meanders through tight valleys while the inward half is more elevated. The course is also always in tip-top condition.

Hindhead is a heathland classic. It is also an open qualifying golf course, set over two valleys, and is in superb condition all year round.

The golf club was founded in 1904 by a group of enthusiasts that included Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle, the first President. Also, in 1904 James Braid and J. H. Taylor played a challenge match over 36 holes, the former winning 3& 2.

Hindhead’s front nine majestically meanders through valleys formed by the Ice Age before finally emerging to the hillside plateau of the back nine.
