The Golf Courses

Hexham Golf Club
A traditional parkland course on fast draining land on the south side of the River Tyne, Hexham Golf Club is a tough enough test of golf to regularly host County events, yet at 6,312 from the medal tees it is enjoyable for club golfers of all standards. The greens are regularly amongst the best in the County, and the views over the confluence of the North and South Tyne and surrounding countryside are stunning.

Slaley Hall (Priestman Course)
The Priestman course was opened for play in 1999 and we considered it to be ideal for our event as it offers a fairer test of golf than its sister course the Hunting, an easier walk and stunning views over the Tyne Valley. The course has hosted the European Seniors Tour and numerous PGA events and offers a strong test made difficult by the fact that there are many, strategically placed, gaping bunkers positioned along the course and these sand traps are the course’s biggest defence. The course presents an array of golfing challenges along the way with the gaping bunkers and several water hazards along the way. However, the course boasts beautifully wide fairways which should inspire you with confidence right from the tee shot. From many of the holes you can enjoy panoramic views over the lovely, Northumberland countryside. The Priestman course at Slaley Hall is the perfect companion for its sister course, the Hunting course, and is the perfect holiday course with stunning views, an interesting layout and firm but fair hazards for you to navigate your way around.

.

Matfen Hall
Located near to Hadrian’s Wall in West Northumberland, Matfen Hall Hotel is set in 300 acres of beautiful parkland. The 19th Century Gothic style Stately home is a grand building overlooking the golf course. The golf course offers and challenging and wonderful golfing experience for all levels of players, in addition to the championship course, the resort offers an additional 9 holes and 9 hole Par-3 course and a fitting finale to our Hadrians Wall HIO Pairs Tournament

Celebrating 1900 years of Hadrian’s Wall

Witness the stunning views, explore natural wilderness and become immersed in the history while visiting Hadrian’s Wall and Housesteads Fort.

Hadrian’s Wall, an epic structure, kept the unwanted out and the welcome safe. Making use of the natural Whin Sill escarpment, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is the Roman Empire’s best-maintained outpost in northern Europe.

Nestled within the Northumberland National Park, it really is quite a treat. There are invigorating walks and breathtaking landscapes.

Venture alongside Hadrian’s Wall to Milecastle 37 and the famous Sycamore Gap, taking in the sights as you go. It’s a real testament to the Romans, as well as their planning, tenacity and power.

Head to Housesteads Roman Fort for a real insight into Roman military life and discover the past behind the archaeological remains, using the stone walls as a guide around the village south of the fort and envisage the different chambers and rooms. Plus, you might just see some of the oldest toilets around.
